Happy Birthday ...

... Shelby!

Today is Shelby's birthday. She is 24 years old.

Shelby is so beloved in this country, our federal leaders declared a three-day weekend. So you have her to thank.

Among other things, Shelby is: a teacher; a voracious reader of young adult novels; a Michigan Wolverine fan; a Michigan native but now a resident of Virginia; a worthy adversary at the beer-pong table; and a hellavu good person to spend time with.

Among her quirks is this: Anytime she passes underneath an orange light at a traffic signal, she kisses her hand and touches the ceiling of her vehicle. She is very dedicated to this superstition.

We love you here at the Fruit Street Free Press
Happy Birthday Shelby!

And since on your birthday, people should feel happy, I'll post this as well.

Thirty years of marriage

Two daughters and a baby carriage

Vacations to Florida, NYC and Hilton

A few rums and cokes, martinis with gin

They’ve had golf on Saturdays, nights on the town

Bay City fireworks, which they enjoy a lot

“Mom, dad I’m poor can I have some”

“Sure, because we love you ton”

Marty, Jim, wanna come out a play

It’s too nice out, no garden chores today

Up to Port Huron or down to Virginia

Hey there Shelby, we really miss, ya.

Classic movies, lines like “sisters, sisters.”

Central Park, can you play “Stairway to Heaven,” mister?

Traverse City, days of relaxation

Sure beats the hell out of executive compensation

Sunny days spent on a pontoon

Grab me a beer, it’s going to be noon soon

Delicious meals, don’t forget the swiss steak

Hey, look at that, left overs to take

Hey girls, want to go to Sommerset

There are some things we need to get, yet

Started in hippie clothes, young and hip

A little older now, hair shortened with a clip

And who can forget the Maize and Blue

Football, of course, but an education, too

Here is to three decades of marriage to one
