This is our living room. Notice the industrial-looking cement floor, the kitchen cabinets, the fans and dehumidifiers, the couch on the left facing a wall and the insulation poking out of the hole in the ceiling.
We had a flood. A pipe in the bathroom in the apartment above us burst. It happened last Monday (MLK Jr. Day) while Linsey and I were both at work. Linsey came home at 8 p.m. and a steady stream of water was coming through our ceiling, cascading onto our floor. Luckily, none of our stuff was ruined -- except Linsey's hot rollers, a new 12-pack of toilet paper, some Q-Tips and other such stuff.
But, as you can see, our apartment is mostly unlivable.
This our kitchen. Missing: a stove, counters, a sink, cupboards and some tile.
The fans you see there have been running 24 hours a day since Wednesday.
And they are very loud.
So basically, we live in our bedroom.
Our bathroom, including the ceiling that is no longer.
It is actually quite dirty, also. So we've been wearing our slippers a lot more often nowadays.
Our silverware drawer next to our night stand.
Much of our kitchen stuff, some chair cushions, a file cabinet and a television --- stuff that is usually not in our bedroom.
We moved our small table and chairs -- usually by the French doors in our living room -- into our bedroom.
In all, life isn't too bad, especially for me, Stephen. I mean, how can I be too upset when I have a Wall Street Journal and a 40 ounce bottle of Budweiser?

It looks worse than I ever imagined. Good luck with that you guys.
And when he says the fans have been running since wednesday...he means last wednesday...as in over week now...non stop. We have to shout at each other!
Well, we usually shout at each other. But now it's necessary. ST
What!??! Why is this the first i have heard? That is terrible!!!!
Oooo...yuck! Does this mean you guys are getting new stuffcupboards, counters, appliances?!? That would be an up-side!........c.
it is worse than you described :(
Hopefully a free months rent?! Or a luxury suite hotel!
Pretty bad looking. I'm glad you guys are ok, it looks like a battle zone.
I would say that you could come live with Jim and I, but Ionia to Port Huron would be a pretty long commute. I hope everything gets back to normal soon. Love you!
booo! Sorry guys, hope your digs are back to normal soon.

That's awful. I hope the reconstruction goes swiftly.
Ahhhh dudes;
That is horrible. Do you have heat?? I cannot imagine being in that kind of cold, with a damp cold feeling. Why isn't your landlord putting you up in a hotel or something??
Come stay with us. It is 65 degrees and sunny today. Tell your boss's that you have been through trauma and you need some "recovery days".
Love you!!
Hope you're back to normal soon!
