A Generational Thing

FRUIT STREET -- Unlike most 20-somethings, Fruit Street residents Stephen and Linsey never started a blog, citing a lack of tech savvy and moderate Internet connectivity power.
That changed today when Stephen, 26, launched the Fruit Street Free Press, a site he hopes attracts the attention of his mother, Mary, his brothers and sisters, other relatives and, ideally, a major corporation with an ample advertising budget.
"Well, I just felt people needed to know what Linsey and I are up to on a daily basis," Stephen said today, sitting a chair with a white v-neck T-shirt watching the Boston Red Sox on television. "And telephone calls, letters and even e-mails seem so personal and time consuming knowing that I can get all communicating squared away in one quick post on my new blog."
The couple was inspired by an onslaught of blogging startups from several key family members: Jason and Kara, who live a block away on Fair Street; Adam and Cassandra, who live in Kentucky; and Daniel, who is the least tech-savvy of all family except Hank, and lives in MP, Mich.
With the millions of blogs on the Internet -- and now the fourth in one family launched in the past few weeks -- Stephen and Linsey admit they don't exactly know what they can write or post to attract readers.
Still, Stephen says he pointed out to Linsey that "most of our friends and family are so bored at work or at home just watching kids, anyway" that they would love to have one more blog to waste away a few minutes during the day.
"It's a good point, if you think about it," Linsey, 25, said. "I mean, Hank is really the only one who probably won't care. And not because he doesn't love us, but because, I mean, there are leafs to rake, driveways to water and livestock to chase around.
"Everybody else," Linsey continued, "is always in front of a computer just begging for more blogging."
Meanwhile, Stephen and Linsey say they promise to write consistently, post some pictures and possibly some videos -- "but not that kind, you perverts," Linsey said.
